Trevor Brown
William E. Shields

May 5-27

This exhibition features sculptures by Seattle-based artists Trevor Brown and William E. Shields, exploring the malleability of the mind and body. Dissolved styrofoam forms and cement workout equipment allow for playful viewer interaction ranging from close inspection to lifting, sitting, and standing upon. Informed by the artists’ backgrounds in mental health, carpentry, and physical exercise, rates of bulking up and breaking down manifest in the processes, materials, and concepts. A humorous exaggeration of density, color, and function exists in the soft and hard forms that follow. Creating a dialogue between neuroplasticity and body empowerment, these works reflect on self improvement in sincere, yet self-deprecating contexts.
